The bad news right now is that the home phone is not working. Not only is there no dial tone (probably my doing; the phone jack is sometimes a little fussy about transferring dial tones, so I was jiggling it to get it to work), but there is now a lovely open hole in our wall with wires hanging out thanks to our resident Bob the Builder trying to fix it. Only our resident Bob the Builder has a degree in photo media, not electrical engineering, so we may have to call an actual professional in to get things working. Thank fuck for public libraries.

In the good news stakes, my application for that job got accepted. I really think it's the best I could've done, so I guess whether I get an interview will be down to the calibre of the other applicants. There were several spots going for the same kind of job, so I don't think it'll be one of those gigs where the people acting in the position get it.

Oh, and another piece of good news - I'm waiting for official confirmation, but it looks like I might be on a scientific committee for a world conference to be held in a couple of years. This would basically mean trawling through abstracts on everything from gene therapy to communication techniques and deciding what gets presented at the conference, plus maybe travelling overseas a couple of times for meetings. No pay, and I'd probably have to fork out at least some of the cost of travel myself, but it'll be really fun to do if I get the spot.

Anyway, not much else here. I won't be doing much emailing or phone calling for a little while, but I'll let everybody know when we have phone privileges back.
