Not much to report here, but I thought I should do a general update anyways. I'm not going to have much time for that sort of thing once works starts - I'm expecting my energy levels to just be shot to pieces for a month or so while I get into the swing of things.

Most of my time has been spent being a happy house-beast, errand wench and Troublemaker At Large. Matt and I have been watching lotsa TV - I'm now addicted to Firefly, Dead Like Me and Futurama because of him; we had a mutual Battlestar Galactica habit, and he's now talking about hooking me on The West Wing when he gets the first season on DVD with captions (necessary because the copies he has access to don't have them and it's too fast for me to follow sans captions).

We've also been playing inordinate amounts of Warcrack, and I'm now in the early stage of learning my way around Europa Universalis II. This will eventually make me scream with frustration, but right now I'm in the "Ooh! New game pretty!" phase.

During the times Matt is at his place of alleged work, I've mostly been bumming around on the net and enjoying the free time I have post-frantic job hunting and pre-actual job starting. I've managed to learn the north-to-south streets in the CBD and roughly what's on them, paying particular attention to things like gelato vendors and places that sell stripy socks. As a result, I'm now much less freaked out about taking trams down to the city proper, even if I did get from Melbourne Central back to Carlton via Docklands the other day (the completely wrong direction, for those who don't know). I'm also deliberating over a really nice pair of purple and white stripy socks...

Which is a bit odd, really, given that I've just spent circa $500 on an iPod (plus nifty purple case; no prizes for guessing my favourite colour). It's a big purchase in more ways than one -- it'll be really useful for the hour long commutes to and from work, and it's my first big purchase as Someone With Regular Disposable Income. But most of all, it's the first music-related thing I've bought for myself since I got my hearing back. Other people have given me CDs or music files, but I've been wary of actually investing myself in music, either financially or emotionally. We'll see how it goes, but it'll be good for listening to podcasts on those long train trips at least.

So now I'm just organising bits and pieces before I start work (and head to Brisbane for training) next week. I need to get my hair cut and dyed. I'm also in dire need of a new pair of work pants. And I'm seeing a dentist on Wednesday, thanks to a couple of very hurty teeth. In spite of my seven operations, I hate dentists, and I really wish these tooth shenanigans hadn't cropped up right before the beginning of a new job.

So. That's me for now. Happy where I am. Happy with the way life is going, because it's moving again instead of stagnating. Happy with the little moments of snuggly goodness with Matt. Happy, really and truly, for the first time since I left Perth.
